Part of the city centre of Phnom Penh, the riverfront, and the Tonlé Sap River show up in the image. The dark red sandstone tower of the Independence Monument is located near the western margin at the intersection of the Norodom and Sihanouk Boulevards. Towards the west are the low buildings of the city based on a gridiron street pattern. Wide roads and green parks lead east from the monument to the river where a number of small boats are moored at the banks. The Cambodia-Vietnam Monument is in the middle of the green space that stretches north and Wat Botum can be seen to the west of this parkland. Beyond lies the large Royal Complex with huge trees and a host of buildings including the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. To its north are the red buildings of the National Museum. A number of hotels, restaurants, and new office blocks line the pleasant riverfront with a green promenade, and the distinctive roof of the Chatomuk Theatre is clearly visible.
