The image illustrates an open-cast mine next to a river channel in eastern Kalimantan. From the air, this open mine is seen surrounded by a canopy of large trees of an earlier landscape. The winding road to the bottom where mining is currently taking place, is clearly displayed along with the vertical faces. Water has accumulated in the bottom of the main pit, and impurities have coloured earlier ones. Currently mining is being carried out on the eastern face of the main pit, where a line of parked trucks are seen waiting for the payload. Several of these loaded trucks are labouring up the road to the top, while empty ones are making their way down to the working face. On top, other trucks are lined up near the northwestern corner of the image, next to a set of white buildings. A wide entrance road approaches the mine from the southwestern corner.
