The iconic shopping artery of Singapore, the Orchard Road, runs across the image, past its major intersection with Scotts and Paterson Roads. . The building at this junction, with the hexagonal roof and a red centre point is the high-rise Marriott Hotel, with Tangs Plaza next to it. Across the road is the huge Ion Orchard building with glass walls, a very large rooftop swimming pool, and beyond it, the vertical rise of residential apartments. On the other side of Paterson Road, the Wheelock Place can be recognized by its large white cupola. The twin towers of Ngee Ann City are at the southeastern corner of the image. A number of other large buildings, familiar to both residents and visitors, mark this part of Singapore. The amount of rooftop space in the image is astounding, but so is the green space displayed in the middle of this global city. There are large trees along roads and in parkland, while small lawns and gardens can be seen on rooftops. A neighbourhood of small red-roofed residential buildings, towards the northeast, completes the urban mosaic.
