This is the new sports centre of Singapore, opened in 2014 on the site of the previous National Stadium at Kallang. The 35 ha site focuses on the 55 000 capacity new National Stadium, which dominates the location. It has a retractable roof and hosts various sports and celebratory events. The National Stadium is surrounded by smaller venues for a range of sports and community activities, such as the 6000 strong aquatic centre, located immediately to the northwest of the new stadium. The other buildings host various sports facilities, a library, a sports museum, and the long Kallang Wave Mall with its leisure, shopping and dining opportunities. The rhombic upturned roof of Singapore Indoor Stadium is next to the water towards the south. A huge tree-lined parking lot is on the southeast of the stadium along with an underground one. The waters of the Kallang and Geylang Rivers surround the site to the west and south and the Nicoll Highway traverses its northern boundary. The MRT Circle Line brings visitors to the complex. The South East Asian Games and Singapore National Day are two important events of 2015 planned for the Singapore Sports Hub.
