Urban development has reached the old harbour of Jakarta. A promontory, part of the old harbour, has been transformed into an expensive residential and recreational area with carefully-architectured buildings, landscaped gardens, green parklands, coastal boulevards, boat channels, tennis courts and swimming pools. There is an excellent road connection with the rest of the city, and the area can also be reached by water. Glittering white boats have replaced the traditional vessels that still serve elsewhere in the harbour. This image shows a number of extraordinary buildings and unusual opportunities for land and water sports. The widespread ongoing construction and landscaping activities continue to metamorphose this section of the old harbour into the modern Jakarta cityscape.
