The boot-shaped peninsula of Cape Yamu marks the northern end of Sapam Bay in eastern Phuket. This previously isolated peninsula is developing into an expensive gated community of luxury villas, resorts and marinas. The development is very new, and as the image shows, landscaping is still incomplete around some of the luxurious buildings. A wide road runs along the spine of the peninsula, connecting various villas and resorts, and a jetty provides access to the sea. Part of the woods that originally covered the peninsula survives providing green space around the development but sediment plumes also come off the cape at various points into the waters of the Phuket Sea. Excellent but locally steep beaches occur on both flanks of the peninsula, the far edge of which, however, is a wooded headland falling steeply into the sea.
