This is the transformation of the south Balinese landscape into expensive beachfront tourism of sheltered and gated beach resorts. A beautiful long beach is connected to the two small steep-sided islands of Nusa Dua by tombolos. Waves break on reefs some distance offshore, and the water near the beach is calm and quiet. Huge hotels and chalets have been built behind the beach, in the midst of a carefully organized gardened landscape. Inland, the links of the Bali Golf and Country Club dominate the south-western part of the image. Several tennis courts come with every hotel, and large swimming pools have been ingeniously designed immediately outside the hotel rooms.
