Polar orbiting meteorological satellites are satellites on the near-polar sun-synchronous
orbits, carrying instruments for meteorological observations.
NOAA-POES (Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite),
USA - A series of satellites in sun-synchronous near-polar orbits for
continuous meteorological observation, sounding of atmospheric profiles and
measurement of energy budgets. The currently operating satellites are NOAA-14
and NOAA-16.
