Satellite image - Mouth of Sittang river,
Myanmar (12 Dec 2006)

The image above shows the mouth of Sittang / Sittoung river, Myanmar. The river originates at Shan plateau and flows south for 420 km before entering the Gulf of Martaban. Some parts of the river are used to transport timber southwards. There are strong currents and rapids along the river and tidal bores may also occur at the river mouth.
