| The following satellite images show the Four Thousand Islands area of the Mekong river. This area is home to one of the most ancient temple in Laos. The Irrawaddy Dolphin, one of the rarest large mammal species in the world, also resides in this area. The Mekong rapids in this area are the biggest and widest in Southeast asia.
