Satellite Images ~ Rivers and Deltas ~ Irrawaddy (introduction)

Irrawaddy river is the main river in Myanmar with a length of about 2170 km. It starts in the Southern Himalayas and ends at the Andaman sea. Its name is believed to come from the Sanskrit term "airavati" which means elephant river. The flow of the Irrawaddy is the lowest in February and March and the maximum flow occurs in July or August during the monsoon period.
